VISION

Through capacity building in data collection and analysis at this nation's 34 American Indian Tribal Colleges and Universities, this project will be the foundation for systemic reform that significantly increases and, for the first time, accurately measures -- American Indian success in higher education.

GOALS & OBJECTIVES

Define relevant quantitative and qualitative indicator data of American Indian student success, as determined by the tribal colleges and their communities.

  • Establish Advisory Panel to oversee project and assist in identifying relevant quantitative and qualitative indicator data of American Indian student success.
  • Conduct regional focus groups on American Indian student success indictors and develop indictors based on findings.

Develop and implement a strategy for collecting, analyzing, and presenting annually the student success indicator data using electronic information management tools.

  • Survey the current data collection and analysis capacity of TCUs, including TCU human, fiscal and physical capacities.
  • Assess the information dissemination needs and capacity of the AIHEC central organization
  • Develop policy report on American Indian student success indicator data and disseminate report to the Congress, federal agencies, foundations, national organizations, and the media.
  • Develop a strategy for ensuring adequate human and capital resources for project implementation at individual TCUs through coordinated and increased funding opportunities and for sustaining this data collection initiative.
  • Begin planning for TCU participation in Phase II of the Achieving the Dream Initiative”± by identifying potential TCU participants and developing strategies to provide technical assistance to tribal colleges in using student success data to drive the systemic reform planning process.
