Education Researchers Discuss How to Learn From Federal Program That Increased Minority Science Majors By DAVID GLENN Just over a decade ago, two federal agencies began a program designed to increase the number of African-American, Latino, and Native American students who earned degrees in science, engineering, and mathematics. Since 1994, the agencies have granted nearly $100-million to six colleges and universities whose students are primarily members of those minority groups, and all six have sharply increased the science majors they graduate.
