MIE Program Highlights Presented during 2005 American Education Research Association Meeting: News Articles on the Chronicle of Higher Education.
Systemic Research and six MIE institutions held a symposium entitled “Undergraduate Retention Models in Minority Serving Institutions: Findings from the NSF & NASA’s MIE Program” during the 2005 American Education Research Association Meeting in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on April 13 presenting MIE Program highlights focusing on undergraduate student retention. The Chronicle of Higher Education published an article describing the session in the Today’s News section of the periodical.

Education Researchers Discuss How to Learn From Federal Program That Increased Minority Science Majors

Just over a decade ago, two federal agencies began a program designed to increase the number of African-American, Latino, and Native American students who earned degrees in science, engineering, and mathematics. Since 1994, the agencies have granted nearly $100-million to six colleges and universities whose students are primarily members of those minority groups, and all six have sharply increased the science majors they graduate.
